Dave doesn't have Working Dogs... WHAT?????

As we watched Best in Show, we were rooting for the dog of a new acquaintance, Sue Coleman, owner of the Swissy who just won Nationals.  He got a Group 1 yesterday and today.  Nothing is Best though. :(  Anyway, someone turned around and asked Dave how he could root for a dog that wasn't even in 'his' Group.  Dave has shown Working Group dogs for many, many years.  His first All-Breed Best in Show was with a Portuguese Water Dog.  He has had Black Russian Terriers for over a dozen years.  So, yes, we still have Working Dogs.  If someone has a working dog they want shown, please call, because...'He's still got it!'

But the thing to remember is to clap for the dog you like.  Doesn't matter if you have one or not, or if you even like the handler.  In the end, it is the dog who really gets the accolades.

Oh, yeah...on this same note...If your breed is having a specialty or supported entry at, or in conjunction with, an all-breed show, support your breed at the group level.  Even today, the Sunday of a long week for the Swissy and Ibizan people, many hung around just to support the representative of their breed in Group and again for Best in Show.

I can't tell you how many times we see the Havanese and Black Russian people take off after they are done showing, only to leave a couple of people to support the breed.  I know that sometimes it is hard to clap for a dog that you really, really, don't like.  That's why God invented 'air-clapping.'  But if it's a dog that you like or even just 'don't mind' then clap, whoop, and holler.  Have fun, and just hope you win the next time.

At one show, some judges even asked us "didn't you have a specialty today?  Where are all the BRT people?"  Unfortunately. we had to answer "Either gone or sitting back in the grooming area."  They wouldn't come to the Groups since it wasn't their dog and they were 'busy' talking.   Thanks for your support.

Go to Groups people.  Watch and learn.  Watch other breeds.  Watch handlers, owners, newbies (you'll figure out who they are:) unless they have been watching, learning, and applying what they have learned.  You can learn something new every day.  Learn it and use it.  Watch the dogs, the people, and the judges.  Information is power.

Three Rivers Kennel Club - Bouvier Des Flandres

Dave couldn't help himself.  He saw a dear friend grooming her Bouvier puppy and I could tell he was going through Bouv-Withdrawal.  So while I was working on our Havanese on Friday night, he helped her groom, then some more on Saturday, and helped her out with showing, then again today.  She has helped us numerous times in the past so he was just lending a hand but I could tell he was having fun.  Today fun turned to all-out competition.  There was young adult bitch in beautiful show coat, who showed beautifully for her handler, who took the points yesterday and that is really how they expected it to go today.  Well, Dave got in there, groomed his fingers off, then worked with the puppy, and got her to show for him.  They took Winners Bitch!!!  What a hoot.  Our friend expected her older (but still a puppy) bitch to be the competitive one this weekend, but Dave got his girl to out show everyone for the points.
Thanks June for letting Dave get his Bouvier fix this weekend.
