Another NOHS Question

If a professional handler who has been breeding a certain breed for many, many years; whose dogs are whelped in his bedroom, raised with his family, and are shown by him; is not eligible to compete with his own dogs in the NOHS, how is it that an AKC Judge is allowed to compete in NOHS?

THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HMMM….

  1. NOHS is the National Owner Handler Series - allowing an AKC judge and a professional handler to compete is just creating another open event. It does nothing to encourage the amateur owner to come out and spend money showing their own dogs. If AKC truly is attempting to bring out the small breeders and non-professional owners of purebred dogs, they need to clearly identify it as Amateur Owner/Handler or Non-Pro Owner/Handler and restrict it to non-professionals. If I take money to show a dog - even another breed - I should not be competing in an owner/handler series. Someone who has an AKC Judges card should also not be competing at that level. By definition, an AKC Judge has a significant background in breeding and showing which makes the playing field unbalanced and discourages the true owner/handler from entering and growing the show numbers.
