Eukanuba Saturday
Glad we didn't make the trek to Florida.
Our gut told us which way things were going to go for the whole circuit... and they did.
Sometimes, no matter how much you want to go play, you just have to be logical about things.
It is after all, just another all breed show, where an unranked class dog can win the group and maybe even Best in Show.
We shall see tonight!

A Holiday Warning
I
received the following from a dear friend of mine. It is something that we all need to consider,
not only during the holidays, but at any time that we are out having a 'good
time:'
"With
the Holidays upon us, I would like to share this personal experience with my
friends about drinking and driving. As
you know, some of us have been known to have brushes with the authorities from
time to time on the way home after a 'social session' out with friends. Well, two days ago I was out for an evening
with friends and had several cocktails followed by some rather nice red
wine. Feeling rather jolly, I still had
the sense to know that I may be slightly over the limit. That's when I did something that I've never
done before - I took a cab home.
Sure
enough, on the way home there was a police road block but since it was a cab,
they waved me past. I arrived home
safely without incident.
This
was a real surprise as I had never driven a cab before, I don't know where I
got it and now that it is in my garage, I don't know what to do with it."

What a day! and not necessarily in a good way.
Another judge change in Bichons. So we had everyone ready by 9:45 for a 10:00 ring time. When we got to the ring, there was a hand written note about the last minute change and we were sent to another ring to be at the end of that time slot...an hour delay. Well, not enough time to go back across the road to the grooming building, and not really any place to hang out and keep the dog relaxed, so we stayed at ringside. Evidently there was a female in season somewhere because Movado kept trying to breed everyone, especially our dear friend Carol Haines, who came to the show, and has been a great help to us with both Bichons and Havanese. Movado did all of this from atop the East Coast Crates. That's talent! With the delay, the dogs pretty much fell apart. Mr. Mushnick pretended that he was a puppy again, Nurple was a tornado on a leash about every 10 feet, Archie was too naked for our new judge, and Movado was just too much for her. What a mess.
BICHONS:
Nurple: 1st / Winners Dog / Best Bred By / Bred By Exhibitor Group 2

Judge Jean Fournier was not well today, and has not been for a while. She struggled with her ring and was overwhelmed by the number of dogs in the Havanese ring (and every breed that she judged this weekend). It was very sad to see a judge with so much experience and expertise struggle with her diminishing faculties. After she retires I hope that people remember her for all of the wonderful things that she has done for dog fanciers and not for these last shows that were such a mess. She is judging the next two days and I hope she gets a better ring steward. She will need someone strong and smart enough to help her manage the ring and keep things on track.

Chocobeast - 4th in her class - Mrs. Fournier said that she was 'too fluffy?'

More that we did today:
At 5:30 this morning we checked out of our hotel, loaded up the dogs, and expens, and headed off to the show. Groomed and showed. Had everything ready to leave this show site and move 10 miles down the road to the next show, by about 3:30. Then the question was, do we stay for the BBE Groups with Nurple, or do we drive to the Rosemont show site? If we left then, we would be in Chicago rush hour trafftic. We did that last night and didn't want to do it again, so hung out, and showed in Group. Nurple needs the practice. So he got a Group 2, then we headed off for supper. Dave found a great place called Morgan's Char House. Great food, Awesome Service, beautiful restaurant. We went from there to the Rosemont show sight, only to find out that they didn't open the building to set up at 5:00, but at noon, so it was pretty much full. We were able to drive into the building, and were directed to a location that was available for set up. We had crates, tables, ex-pens, and equipment unloaded when the show chairwoman drove up in a golf cart and informed up that we had to move because the area where we were was for indoor loading/unloading and must be kept open. We had to move about 150 ft to the other side of that section of the building. There were several other people also set up in the 'unloading zone.' The show committee had their people 'relocate' all of those set-ups. Just wait until those people show up in the morning. There is going to be some words that I can't type! But the guy at the door was wrong, and we just have to deal with it. We were just lucky that we were still there when we were moved. After all of that, we checked into our new hotel, across from the new show site, where it will cost us an additional $36 per day to park. But we can go in and out, unlike the public parking which is $13+ per day with no 'ins/outs' (where our vehicle would not have fit anyway. We requested hypo-allergenic bedding, basically that there be no feather pillows or bedding. Guess what? Yep, feathers everywhere. So much for our allergies. So we called the front desk, and they apologized and would send someone. While waiting for housekeeping, it was warm in the room so we tried to adjust the thermostat, at least get the fan on. Guess what? Yep, it didn't work either. So, we called the front desk again, and were informed that, contrary to the fact that we have a multiple control thermostat, we have no control over our individual room temperatures, You heard that right. Since it is winter the entire hotel is set at 70 degrees. Then I tried to get online (for an additional fee, of course) and that didn't work. They had to bring me an ethernet box. I think I'll check for bedbugs before I hit the sack. Which I am going to do now since it is already tomorrow.
and people wonder why I don't enjoy the dog show thing as much anymore...

REMEMBER
TODAY IS 'PEARL HARBOR DAY'
The anniversary of the attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Hawaii.
Many of our veterans gave their lives that day, and many more made the ultimate sacrifice in the following years defending the USA and people around the world.
Please remember these sacrifices and those of all of our veterans and their families.

This is the last hold out to the move to Purina Farms Event Center for all dog shows in the area. "This show site sucks!" Is pretty much the consensus. On Thursday when we were setting up, everyone was talking about trying to take up a petition or something to express to the club how inferior this site is. Not enough grooming space (even with the low entry), no bathing facilities, inadequate electric, and the show chair told people that they could go out to the pole barns on Thursday night. These were not lit, have dirt and Lord knows what else on the floor, and it was cold and windy. We let 2 or 3 people with single dogs move in with us (because we are so sweet)...I could go on. OK, one more thing: The bathrooms! The bathrooms have what I am sure is at least a 10 year accumulation of dirt, dead bugs, and cobwebs around the baseboards (does anyone even use that word any more?). It will take some industrial scraper to remove what has built up on the floor around the metal stall supports. If the specialties that are held on Friday would just move to Purina, maybe Edwardsville Kennel Club would follow, after all, a majority of the all-breed show entries are due to the specialties. According to members of the Edwardsville club, the main reason for not moving over to Purina Farms is Ring Stewards. The club won't spend the money to hire a stewards club, and the club members (many of whom are older than dirt) don't want to drive back and forth to Purina to steward. This show site is going to be the demise of this club. If the entries keep getting lower, they won't have the money to hire judges.

With Sympathy...
Our thoughts and prayers go out to our dear friends Phil and Jeanne Woods. Philip's mother, Patsy Le Woods, passed away this week after a long illness. I am sure that she is pain free and happy now.
The visitation and burial was today in Chillicothe, MO. We didn't want to bother Jeanne and Phil to find out details of the services, so I relied on legacy.com and the information did not make it to the internet in time. We missed the service, but want you to know that you are in our hearts.
If you would like to leave a message for Jeanne and Philip, you may do so by signing the guestbook through the funeral home's website:

Happy Anniversary Edwina & Rich Dolack!
Today is my oldest sister and her husband's 50th wedding anniversary.
Yep, they're old...really old!
Happy 50th Anniversary to Edwina and Richard Dolack!
They have always had a relationship that I admired. They can laugh and joke with each other without the other getting upset (OK not too upset) and have always had a special bond. They have a great kids and grandkids.
Here's wishing them many more happy healthy years together!
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Dave and I would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and let you know how thankful we truly are for such wonderful friends and family.
We are even thankful (a little) for those of you who are a real pain in the rear, for you make us really appreciate those who aren't.

Pedigree: http://www.havanesegallery.hu/pedigree_en.php?id=30933
OFFA: http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1422366#animal
Q passed his BAER test a short time ago and I have a copy of the form, just waiting for it to be posted.
Q is a beautiful 10" boy with a lovely coat and excess cute and personality. He is from an All Champion litter, and has sired his first litter. All puppies seem to be taking after their father. We are excited about them. Scroll down to see photos of the Quincy - Tina litter (Tina is from an All-Champion litter as well), and check to see if your favorite is still available.
Here are some photos of Q, at the request of some breeders interested in using him. I am afraid that they do not do his 'cuteness' enough justice, but you can see his awesome structure. I would still like to get some movement shots of him sometime soon. Contact his owner, Vicki Thompson at havanesevicki@weshowdogs.info for more information about this lovely dog.
