J. K. Rowling Knows Curse Words - Lots of Them!!!
Just finished the J. K. Rowling book "The Casual Vacancy."
While Ms. Rowling hasn't lost her knack for extreme and explicit description, and excellent scene-setting, this novel was a boor. Long, drawn out, no point unless you want to read about a few weeks in the life of Mayberry meets South Central LA.
What a disappointment.
Note to J. K.: Everyone can use those 4-letter words, no need to prove that you know them.

Dancing With The Stars
Bill Engvall continues to surprise. I had to vote for him last week and this week. He is fun to watch and appears to be having a great time.
He is kind of stuck, if he wins the rest of the 'blue collar gang' will give him crap, and if he gets voted off, they will too. Who knows which will be worse! Either way it would be fun to be a fly on the wall. We love them all.
It pisses me off that the DWTS judges are doling out praise and then giving crap scores. Some of the other contestants were way behind their partners and were 'other worldly' or had 'good musicality', then gave them higher scores. I had to give this up for a season when I saw them do that a few seasons ago when they kept praising and praising on contestant for bad performances and dumping great ones. You could tell by week 2 who was winning, and that was exactly how it went. Hard to tell who is going to take it this season. Should be fun to watch.
Vote for Bill: 1-800-868-3409

Dave doesn't have Working Dogs... WHAT?????
As we watched Best in Show, we were rooting for the dog of a new acquaintance, Sue Coleman, owner of the Swissy who just won Nationals. He got a Group 1 yesterday and today. Nothing is Best though. :( Anyway, someone turned around and asked Dave how he could root for a dog that wasn't even in 'his' Group. Dave has shown Working Group dogs for many, many years. His first All-Breed Best in Show was with a Portuguese Water Dog. He has had Black Russian Terriers for over a dozen years. So, yes, we still have Working Dogs. If someone has a working dog they want shown, please call, because...'He's still got it!'
But the thing to remember is to clap for the dog you like. Doesn't matter if you have one or not, or if you even like the handler. In the end, it is the dog who really gets the accolades.
Oh, yeah...on this same note...If your breed is having a specialty or supported entry at, or in conjunction with, an all-breed show, support your breed at the group level. Even today, the Sunday of a long week for the Swissy and Ibizan people, many hung around just to support the representative of their breed in Group and again for Best in Show.
I can't tell you how many times we see the Havanese and Black Russian people take off after they are done showing, only to leave a couple of people to support the breed. I know that sometimes it is hard to clap for a dog that you really, really, don't like. That's why God invented 'air-clapping.' But if it's a dog that you like or even just 'don't mind' then clap, whoop, and holler. Have fun, and just hope you win the next time.
At one show, some judges even asked us "didn't you have a specialty today? Where are all the BRT people?" Unfortunately. we had to answer "Either gone or sitting back in the grooming area." They wouldn't come to the Groups since it wasn't their dog and they were 'busy' talking. Thanks for your support.
Go to Groups people. Watch and learn. Watch other breeds. Watch handlers, owners, newbies (you'll figure out who they are:) unless they have been watching, learning, and applying what they have learned. You can learn something new every day. Learn it and use it. Watch the dogs, the people, and the judges. Information is power.

Three Rivers Kennel Club - Bouvier Des Flandres
Dave couldn't help himself. He saw a dear friend grooming her Bouvier puppy and I could tell he was going through Bouv-Withdrawal. So while I was working on our Havanese on Friday night, he helped her groom, then some more on Saturday, and helped her out with showing, then again today. She has helped us numerous times in the past so he was just lending a hand but I could tell he was having fun. Today fun turned to all-out competition. There was young adult bitch in beautiful show coat, who showed beautifully for her handler, who took the points yesterday and that is really how they expected it to go today. Well, Dave got in there, groomed his fingers off, then worked with the puppy, and got her to show for him. They took Winners Bitch!!! What a hoot. Our friend expected her older (but still a puppy) bitch to be the competitive one this weekend, but Dave got his girl to out show everyone for the points.
Thanks June for letting Dave get his Bouvier fix this weekend.

21 Havanese showed today (6-8-3-4). Benny went Best of Breed over 6 specials, including a currently ranked no. 5 Havanese in breed points who recently became
a Platinum GCH. Benny added 5 more points towards his GCH title. He now has 17 GCH points. This is only his 3rd weekend out as a special. We really
appreciate Judge Houston Clark willing to put up such a young special for BOB.
Benny is only 13 months old. It was a very competitive toy group today.
Although no placement in group for Benny today, he showed wonderfully for me as always. And we are really proud of him.
Thank you again Dave and Darlene for this wonderful boy!!!

Ibizan Hound Club of the US National Specialty September 13, 2013
Well with this show last year I was bragging about Dave. This year he was busy grooming Havanese and didn't even get to see the competition. I saw bits and pieces. Not much of it greatly impressed me, but it did leave an impact.
One was when the judge told the handler of the winner of the Lure Coursing Bitch class that she was not eligible to compete for breed. Now, I admit that I don't know about how Lure Coursing meshes with conformation, but there was quite an uproar, because the judge was told that by a member of the show committee that they are not supposed to be able to compete for breed, but by the rules they are? The judge said that the bitch in question was the best moving Ibizan that she had seen in a very long time. What a disappointment for the owner/handler.
Next, I saw the judge award the Winners Bitch (An almost 3 year old, who according to the AKC website had 1 point as of August 30), Best of Winners, and Best of Breed (not in that order). She gave the Breed ribbon out, then the Best of Opposite (who thankfully did not go to the Winners Dog), then came back and gave the Best of Winners to the Amateur Owner Handler showing the bitch. #20 in the catalog.
As I was watching the Non Sporting Group (Non Sporting Specialty today), the Ibizan people and dogs were getting photos. Not many were happy.
THEN IT REALLY HIT THE FAN>>>
The buzz is as follows: Evidently, the Norwegian Judge, Mrs. Eli-Marie Klepp, had spent this past week with the breeder/co-owner of the Breed Winning Bitch, who is also on the Board of Directors of the Ibizan Hound Club of the United States. They drove out to Purina Farms from the east coast together.
With all of the changes with AKC regulations, is it against the rules? Probably not. Is it moral or ethical? Probably not. Does it look bad? ...YOU BETCHA!!!
