Well, this is it.  We have said it for a while now, but this was the final straw.  Ms. Lyddon will not be getting any more entries from us.  She put up a puppy bitch for breed and a puppy dog for opposite.  For Havanese it was coat.  But you should have seen what she did in some of the other breeds all weekend.  O.M.G.  What a joke.  For Havanese, yes the standard says soft and silky, but puppy coat is puppy coat, and soft, silky adult adult coat will feel different.  Just look at a five-year old child's hair compared to a supermodel with gorgeous soft silkly hair.  THEY FEEL DIFFERENT, but BOTH ARE SOFT AND SILKY.   I would have gladly (OK, grudgingly) lost to any of the other specials, Paula Frazier's bitch looked great and showed beautifully, as did Ashlee Goseland's.  For her to do this to all of the specials is a total slap in the face.

Even though I showed in the morning, I stayed for group.  That's when I realized that, while the breed winner had a really cute face, it is very long, and (at least in group, from where I stood) the rise was good but the croup dropped off and the tailset was incorrect.  (my opinion).

Happy Birthday Dave!

Not shown today.  The same judge from the Thursday Havanese Judge change.  Walter Sommerfelt.  Not approved for Non Sporting dogs.  No point in showing to him, so withdrew all of our Bichons.

We found out that the club knew ahead of time that Mrs Ellen Fetter would not be in attendance, due to a family emergency, and our sympathies are with her.  What they did with substituting Mr. Sommerfelt, while technically legal, could have been dealth with in a more appropriate manner.  They should have moved breeds to judges already approved, or brought in a judge who was more qualified.

AKC GBGVCA Open Shows

The GBGVCA has approval to hold 4 Open Shows in conjunction with the Heart of America Cluster in Kansas City March 13 - 16, 2014.  Make plans to attend!  Premium list and updates will be posted here as well as on the GBGVCA website when available. 
Let's make these shows a lot of fun, with lots of points in the breeds.  The American Royal Complex is a great show site, with tons of indoor grooming (something like 1 or 2 acres).  
Looking forward to seeing you there!

US Judges vs Foriegn Judges

Based on the results posted on the Infodog website for the Black Russian Terriers at Del Valle today, one of the BRTs was excused for having an undershot bite (SUS).  This dog made it all of the way through it's AKC Championship AND Grand Championship without being disqualified.  It took a Judge from Russia, who knew the American Standard, to do it.  Did he do that because he was more aware of the fact that he was being watched?  Did he do it because he could not, in good conscience, do anything else?  

WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT OUR AMERICAN JUDGES?

From the AKC BRT Standard:
Disqualifications 
Nose color other than black
Two or more missing teeth
Any bite other than a scissors bite
Any coat color other than solid black or black with scattered gray hairs.

I wish more judges would refer back to the standard if they have a question.  BUT, if they are going to cite you for something, it had better be right.  A judge, that I like and respect, quoted an incorrect portion of a standard to me in the ring earlier this year.  He read it wrong.  He wouldn't go look when the three handlers BOB, BOS, and BOW all told him that he was quoting it incorrectly.  He just told us that there was not one 'correct' dog in the ring.  Well, if that was true why give us any ribbons at all?  So Judges, if you really think the dogs are not correct, stop rewarding them.  Remember, some of those people with the really bad dogs will get a photo with you, then advertise it.  If you don't want to be seen with a ribbon in your hand, standing next to that dog for all of eternity, don't give it a ribbon.
