GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE

While I am very sorry for all of the people who lost family members because of one psychotic young man in California, gun laws wouldn't have kept this man from killing those people.  He used a KNIFE to kill some of the people on his list.  Are we going to outlaw knives now?  The guns made it quicker for some, but he was determined to these kill people no matter how he had to do it.  He had a list.  Criminals have always been able to get whatever they 'needed,' and no matter what the laws are, will continue to do so.

I believe that the efforts should be concentrated on the Justice System, or lack thereof.  If the penalties were swift, harsh, and public, maybe some of these people would think twice before doing these horrific things.  Some would not.  Some would do it no matter what because they know that they are going to kill themselves at the end of it anyway.

We live in a society that takes better care of their prison inmates, and is more afraid of unjustly accusing someone than we do of our VETERANS and their Families who have risked and given their all for our freedoms.  No other country has private organizations soliciting donations to get their Veterans the care they need.  Nor do they have Veterans being refused treatment at Federal facilities.

Had to vent.  Wishing you all a Safe and Blessed Memorial Day Weekend.

THANK YOU TO ALL VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES FOR YOUR SERVICE AND SACRIFICE.

A very stinky day at the dog show.  Started out with a judge change in Havanese.  To ending the day hanging out in the grooming area waiting to run to the tornado shelter with the dogs.  Thankfully after we moved the dogs into the shelter area, where we could keep the dogs in their crates, the storm turned east and missed Topeka.

Havanese Judge change to Terry Lyddon.  NEVER AGAIN.  After she butchered the breed for the umpteenth time in November, I swore that I would never show anything to her again.  We pulled our class dogs and asked another well-known handler to show Selena.  When she was awarded Select and even the breed winner couldn't believe that Selena lost.  It was horrible.  When talking with many other exhibitors that showed to Ms. Lyddon that day, they couldn't believe what she did in their breeds either.  In fact, we had to ask 4 handlers before we could find one that would show to her!

Selena was the only dog that Ms. Lyddon 'really' felt the coat.  Selena is 4 years old.  Everything else in the the ring was under 16 months of age - puppy coat!

How many times to we have to explain, to judges, that there is a difference between soft, silky adult coat and soft, silky puppy coat.  It's not a question of which is softer or silkier.  That's like saying that an adult supermodel does not have soft, silky hair because they just felt a 5 year old's soft, silky hair.  They are both soft and silky, just different.

So, yeah, now you're saying that it's sour grapes since we lost.  NOPE.  You are right that I don't like to lose, but I can also understand losing to a good dog that is a good example of the breed.  At the end of the day, if it's a dog I wouldn't mind taking home, then it's a dog that I can tolerate losing to.

I won't have to worry about losing under Terry Lyddon every again though.

Chinese Food?

We have received a lot of comments and compliments on Dave's trip to China.  Many comments are about the food, but my question is this:  If he has dinner of a T-bone steak, a baked potato and salad while he is in China, isn't it still Chinese Food?

Things that make you go Hmmmm.

Raymore, Missouri US Mail Theft ... AGAIN !!!

Hi All,
Well, for the second time within a month our mailbox has been vandalized and mail stolen.  Our subdivision does not have 'house' delivery, instead we have MBUs - Multi Box Units - where 6 houses have their mail delivered.  They are small post office box size and lock with a key.  The MBU is about 2 houses down and actually is located in a vacant lot.

I have lived here since 1990 and this has never happened before, and now twice within a month.  Also, my Reatta had the locking gas cap cover (the thing you pop open from inside the car when you get gas) pried open, scratching the paint, breaking the latch.  Try getting a new one of those for a classic car these days.  Things that have always been safe outside have gone missing.  That's just our house.  The neighbors have the same complaints.

Yes, we have contacted the police but we have no 'proof.'  Was any mail actually delivered to you today?  What was stolen?  Well, hell! I know they have to ask the questions, but if you don't know what was delivered, how do you know what was stolen?  I thought jacking with the US Mail was a Federal Offense?  Can I prove how much gas was taken from my car?   Yeah, right.  What time did it happen?  How the heck should I know?  We're lucky if the mail gets here before noon.  But when you work, you check it when you get home.

What I do know is that a new family moved in a few months ago.  Lots of teenagers and college age kids.  Coming and going at all hours.  The smell of marajuana smoke is so strong that I am sometimes afraid to inhale when I go outside.  (OK, you're right, sometimes I want to inhale).

Again, we can't prove anything.  It is up to the victims to catch their assailant.  I can't even see the mailbox from my house so their is no putting a spy cam on it.  The neighbor that lives closest will probably do that this week.  But it's still just a real pain in the rear.

My whole point of posting this is to notify my friends and family that have sent anything in the mail to us in the last month or so.  Please email me and ask if I got it.  If it was a check and it has been cashed, please verify that Dave or I were the ones to cash it.  If it was cashed by someone else, that will be the only way that we even get a police theft report, otherwise it is just 'damage to property.'  Big whoop.

HAPPY EASTER !!!

Wishing you all a Blessed and Happy Easter.

We received the best email earlier.  We recently placed one of our young adult Havanese with a family.  They are in love...which of course we knew that they would be, but they sent photos today...

They did an Easter Egg Hunt but put dog treats in the eggs and let him go search for them!
What a cool idea.

US Healthcare Mandatory Insurance

I have been trying to help a dear friend with signing up for the Mandatory Health Insurance - "Obamacare."

Situation:
Single, mid 50s, some college education plus trade training, unemployed (not for lack of trying), lives with a relative.  Not extremely computer savvy, but no regular access to a computer anyway.  No children.

I have read through the healthcare.gov website multiple times and it looked to me like she was screwed.  My friend tried to call several times but only has a prepaid cell phone with limited minutes.  When you call they tell you right away to make sure that your phone is fully charged.  Each time she got in the cue it was 'wait time 45 minutes' or 'wait time 60 minutes.'  Someone on a limited income with a prepaid phone with limited minutes, can't just sit on hold for an unlimited amount of time.  They did say that if you left a number they would call you back after April 1.  Well, I guess that was the April Fool's joke as they never gave you a time or way to leave a phone number.  I got the same message today.

As a last ditch effort I spent an hour on the phone with a very personable, and informed 'representative' when I called the Healthcare.gov phone number.  Well actually it was about 8 minutes with the representative and 52 minutes on hold.

I was told that if she had a taxable income where she filed taxes and paid enough in to cover the premiums, she could probably get a tax credit for part of the premiums paid - a minimum of $268 per month.  But since she doesn't have any income, and is not qualified for Medicare since she doesn't have any children, she is required to have the insurance.  What does that $268 per month get her you might ask?  It gets her a $6,300 deductible, then office visits and some tests are covered.  Any hospitalization is a whole different category.   So someone with no income, no other Federal or State aid (she gets $50 per month in food stamps, but nothing else), has to come up with $268 per month, out of thin air, and then still pay out of pocket until at least $6,300 per year.  So in other numbers $3,216 in premiums, plus $6,300 for 'regular deductibles' for someone with no income.  Hmmm... Must be that new math.

But if she doesn't buy the insurance, and needs some coverage or makes enough to file taxes next year she must pay the penalty:  1% of her income or $95.00 whichever is higher.   Let's see almost $10,000 per year out of pocket before coverage kicks in or $95 as a penalty for not having insurance.  Which would you choose?

US citizens, or legal residents, will be required to provide proof of insurance when we file our taxes.  People who are not US citizens or legal residents, do not have to prove that they are here legally and will receive health care with no out of pocket, because they don't have to file taxes!

This is just not right.
